Bobby Roth is giving a Master Class for International Bosphorus Film Festival!

5th International Bosphorus Film Festival, to kick off on November 17, is on the boil for hosting master filmmakers. In addition to Béla Tarr’s attendance in the festival, a surprise that was announced last week, another VIP guest will be Bobby Roth, the director of cult series including “Lost”, “Prison Break”, “Miami Vice” and “Fringe”, who will give a master class with the support of GENÇDES Project by Republic of Turkey Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

 

Organized by International Bosphorus Cinema Association and Istanbul Media Academy with the support of Republic of Turkey Ministry of Culture and Tourism, 5th International Bosphorus Film Festival’s international guests enrapture the local cinephiles. In addition to Béla Tarr’s attendance in the festival, a surprise that was announced last week, another VIP guest will be Bobby Roth. Organized with the support of GENÇDES Project initiated in 2016 by Republic of Turkey Ministry of Culture and Tourism with the aim of increasing youth participation in cultural and artistic events, Roth will give a master class to the cinephiles.

 

Roth studied Philosophy and Creative Writing at UC Berkeley, then got a BA in Cinema at USC, and an MFA in Motion Picture Production from UCLA. Since then, he has directed many TV series including “Miami Vice”, “Beverly Hills, 90210”, “Revenge”, “Grey’s Anatomy”, “Fringe”, and particularly “Lost” and “Prison Break”. He was a founding member of the Independent Feature Project and the first Co-Chairman of the Directors Guild of America. He has made many award-winning features including “Circle of Power” (1981) –that won the Grand Jury Prize in Sundance- “Heartbreakers” (1984), “Manhood” (2003), and “Berkeley” (2005). His latest work is “Filinta”, a TRT series from Turkey that was televised three years ago. In June 2017, he was awarded with Lifetime Achievement Award in Miami Web Fest. Actively working in the industry, Roth teaches film seminars throughout the world with “A Director Prepares”; the master class programme that he will be giving as a part of International Bosphorus Film Festival.

Organized by International Bosphorus Cinema Association and Istanbul Media Academy, the 5th Bosphorus International Film Festival will run from 17-26 November in Istanbul and the screenings will take place in Atlas, Beyoğlu and Kadıköy movie theatres. On November 2, the festival programme will be announced, and the tickets will be put on sale at mobilet.com.
