“Debt”, a national competition film, was screened at Beyoglu Movie Theatre, with the participation of the director Vuslat Saraçoğlu and actors Serdar Orçin, Ipek Türktan Kaynak, Rüçhan Çalışkur. Saraçoğlu said “Sometimes, life seems complicated to me even at its most naked form. Thus, I haven’t used any metaphors in this film,” and added; “The essential part is the invisible one. I believe, the most significant function of art is digging beneath the visible.”

YESTERDAY AT THE FESTIVAL OCTOBER 27, 2018, SATURDAY

 

  • “Debt”, a national competition film, was screened at Beyoglu Movie Theatre, with the participation of the director Vuslat Saraçoğlu and actors Serdar Orçin, Ipek Türktan Kaynak, Rüçhan Çalışkur.   • Owner of last night’s Honorary Award, the Ukrainian director Sergei Loznitsa’s “Process (The Trial)”, and “Victory Day”, had their Turkey premieres at the festival. Answering the questions after the screenings, Loznitsa said that “Victory Day” is a film based on the question of how we remember past and continued: “As what we remember form our future, ‘Victory Day’ is precious for me.”


 

TODAY AT THE FESTIVAL OCTOBER 28, 2018, SUNDAY

 

  • “The Pillar of Salt”, a national competition film directed by Burak Çevik, will be screened at Beyoglu Movie Theatre at 12:00 with the participation of the director and cast.

 

  • Elizabeth Mirzaei and Gulistan Mirzaei’s “Laila At The Bridge”, following an Afghani woman’s struggle with drugs, that premiered at CPH:DOX and won F:ACT Award will be screened at Kadikoy Movie Theatre at 12:00.

 

  • A distinguished director not only for the Ukrainian, but the world cinema in general, we will talk with Sergei Loznitsa especially on his latest films “Donbass”, “Victory Day” and “The Trial” with an opportunity to learn about his experiences and thoughts regarding filmmaking. To be realized with the contributions of TürkMedya, Sergei Loznitsa Master Class will be realized at Soho House Istanbul at 14:00!

 

  • Through an enlightening and pleasant conversation with the distinguished personages in our filmmaking industry, we will search for answers, based on the experiences of Belçim Bilgin, Mert Firat and director Ömer Faruk Sorak, to some questions such as “Who is an actor?”, “How is the relationship between the director and actor established?”, “What are the ways to interpret the character and have the right performance?” The panel talk “Directing Actors” will be realized at Yapi Kredi Kültür Sanat at 11:00.

 

  • Produced by Brad Pitt, and starring Steve Carell and Timothée Chalamet - who earned great success with “Call Me By Your Name” (2017) – both having Oscar-worthy acting performances, “Beautiful Boy” will be screened at Beyoglu Movie Theatre at 16:00.

 

  • “The Pigeon”, a national competition film directed by Banu Sıvacı, will be screened at Beyoglu Movie Theatre at 16:00 with the participation of the director and cast.

 

  • “Chaos”, a national competition film directed by Semir Aslanyürek, will be screened at Atlas Movie Theatre at 21:30 with the participation of the director and cast.

 

  • Sergei Loznitsa’s four films - among which three are Turkish premieres - will be screened. “Donbass”, a dark comedy about the Donbass War, that won this year’s Best Director Prize from Un Certain Regard section of Cannes will be screened with the participation of Loznitsa himself at Beyoglu Movie Theatre at 21:30.


 

TOMORROW AT THE FESTIVAL OCTOBER 29, 2018, MONDAY

 

  • Starting with the basic principles of screenwriting, we will have a conversation with Massimiliano Nardulli, Giovanni Robbiano and Suzanne Pradel on the topics such as “What is screenwriting and what is not?”, “Who is a screenwriter”, and “What are the techniques of screenwriting?” will be realized at Cezayir at 13:00.

  • “Genesis 2.0”, co-directed by Christian Frei and Maxim Arbugaev, that won the Best Cinematography Award at the documentary category of Sundance’s World Cinema section, and also the Audience Award at Moscow will be screened at Atlas Movie Theatre at 12:00.

 

  • Bent Hamer’s “O’Horten” (2007), a dark comedy that competed at the Directors’ Fortnight section of Cannes and brought the acting dog the Dog Palm Award, will be screened at Atlas Movie Theatre at 16:00.

 

  • Swiss director Germinal Roaux’s “Fortuna”, a story about an Ethiopian girl’s embracing hope; winner of the Best Film Award from Generation 14plus section of Berlinale, where it premiered, will be screened at Beyoglu Movie Theatre at 19:00.

 

  • “Trust”, a national competition film directed by Sefa Öztürk, will be screened at Atlas Movie Theatre at 19:00 with the participation of the director and cast.

 

  • A Zhang Ming film “The Pluto Moment”, with the Zen effect it creates at the audience with its gripping images, that was acknowledged as “the festival’s hidden treasure” by Hollywood Reporter after it vied for Directors’ Fortnight section of Cannes, will be screened at Beyoglu Movie Theatre at 21:30.


“The Queen Of Fear”, co-directed by Fabiana Tiscornia and one of the most influential actresses of Argentinean cinema, Valeria Bertuccelli, who also star as the lead role, that won Special Jury Award from the World Competition section of Sundance will be screened at Kadikoy Movie Theatre at 21:30.
